Jayati Modi raring to go
Being the niece of the former IPL chairman could have its perks, but Jayati Modi claims she got her first Bollywood break by dint of her determination and hard work. No nepotism was at play.
The coming Friday sees Jayati Modi, the niece of Lalit Modi, making her Bollywood debut with the Karan Johar production Gippi. The film has Jayati playing a snooty girl with superiority complex. She’s the relentless tormentor of the film’s leading character Gippi (played by Riya Vij), who’s a fat girl.
Talking about her character Shamira Chauhan in the film, Jayati recently said: “She is the queen bee of the school. She is a role model figure. She is amazing at sports, studies and good looking. But the character is fake and makes fun of people. She has a superiority complex. She has made a lot of enemies. She is Gippi's main arch enemy.”
Bagging the role wasn’t a cakewalk, though. Jayati says she got to know about the auditions through her friends. So she dropped by to test her luck. She was given a headgirl speech to read in the first audition. Jayati recalls being nervous, but she managed to pull through it. A week later she got a call from the film’s casting director and she was asked to come for more auditions.
“I auditioned for the role. I gave three rounds of auditions. I was nervous before giving it. It was a two to three week-long process,” Jayati recalls.
Well, now that Jayati Modi has got her foot in the door to Bollywood, she says she’s looking forward to do more roles, leading ones in particular.
We wish this pretty newbie good luck. Check out more photos of her ahead.
