Farhan Akhtar plays Milkha Singh, the legendary Indian athlete who, as a child, escaped partition riots and therefore has his hiccups returning to that country for a sporting event. “Sir, mere se nahin hoga, mere pair hi nahin uthney Milkha Singh tells Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, played by Dalip Tahil.
But Milkha Singh does go to Pakistan and runs that race like it’s the last one of his life. When a Pak official mocks him “Yeh aapki zindagi ki aakhri race ho sakti hai,” pat comes Milkha’s reply, “Daudunga bhi waise hi.”
There’s also a glimpse into Milkha Singh’s romantic life. How he wooed a Punjabi girl (Sonam Kapoor) in his village.
The first trailer of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag packs in a lot of energy. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music adds an extra vigour. And it’s apparent that a lot of sweat has been shed to make this film.
Most impressive is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s direction and Farhan Akhtar’s performance. Note the humiliation on Farhan’s face when he is slapped by his senior (Pawan Malhotra) in the trailer.
Slated to release on July 12, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is one film that should be on your wishlist.
