At The Movies in July
The second half of the year 2013 clocks in with a month crammed with interesting films from Bollywood. There are tales of heroism, sacrifice, love, seduction, and inner search in the kaleidoscopic variety on offer in July.
If Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is inspired from a real life story of the Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, Lootera takes a bit of inspiration from O Henry’s short story The Last Leaf. Then we have what is touted as India’s first cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet in director Manish Tiwary’s Issaq.
One movie to look out for is Ship Of Theseus by director Anand Gandhi. The film has been a rage at international film festivals and has been lauded by Shyam Benegal as “the most significant film to have come out of India in a long time.” Karan Johar also candidly admitted that watching Ship Of Theseus made him feel inferior as a filmmaker.
