The trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s much-awaited film Haider casts a spell on you. Set in the snowed-under Kashmir, the film tells a tale of love, betrayal and revenge.
Shahid Kapoor plays the titular hero, Haider. He returns to his home in Kashmir valley upon learning of his father’s disappearance. It’s being said that the security forces detained his father for housing militants, but the truth is otherwise.
Haider finds out that his father was murdered by his uncle (Kay Kay Menon) who made advances towards Haider’s mother (Tabu) and succeeded in winning her over. Haider wants revenge, but finds that he can’t trust his mother.
The trailer of Haider packs in some riveting moments. A bruised and bloodied Shahid Kapoor peeking from the window of a house and pointing out his gun is quite a sight. In one scene, Shahid is in bed with Shraddha Kapoor. He put a gun to his temple and recites a wonderful couplet, “Dil ki gar suno to hai, dimaag ki to hai nahi / Jaan loon ke jaan doon, main hoon ke main nahin.”
Vishal Bhardwaj seems to have adapted Shakespeare’s play Hamlet to a very Indian setting perfectly again after his adaptations of Macbeth (Maqbool) and Othello (Omkara).
The film stars Irrfan Khan in a pivotal role and has been shot entirely in the Kashmir valley.
