‘The Imitation Game’ presents the story of Alan Turing -- a British mathematician and logician who played a pivotal role in the World War II victory of the Allies. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Turing in the film.
‘If you speak a word about what I'm about to show you, you will be executed,’ Menzies tells Turing, before introducing him to the Enigma machine -- the greatest encryption device used by Germans for all communications. While everyone thinks the Enigma code is unbreakable, Turing decides to team up with some brilliant minds and crack it.
‘We are going to break an unbreakable Nazi code and win the war,’ announces Alan Turing. Although initially he is unable to decrypt a single message from Germans, he later designs a machine that breaks every message sent by them, every day, instantly. Interestingly, apart from Turing’s accomplishments, the film also centres on his personal life and his homosexuality.
