Dhai Akshar Prem Ke review
'Dhai Akshar Prem Ke' Third shock by Big B's sonBy N K DeoshiFilm critic, ApunKaChoice.Com It was yet another D-day and the third acid test for Abhishek Bachchan as his third film, Raj Kanwar-directed Dhai Akshar Prem Ke released this Friday. Dhai Akshar Prem Ke – inspired by a Kabir couplet, marks the silver screen debut of the good looking rampwalker Inder Sudan in a villainous role, and also casts Sonali Bendre, Anupam Kher, Sushma Seth, Tanvi Azmi and Amrish Puri apart from Aishwarya Rai in the female lead. In
Sahiba is an ambitious girl. She belongs to a typical Rajput family in which tradition requires that a girl give her consent readily to marry the man chosen by her family. But being a girl of contemporary times that she is, Sahiba refuses to submit to age-old traditions. To avoid an arranged marriage, she tells a lie that she is already married. The fake husband is the handsome Army captain of course. Karan, knowing Sahiba’s plight, decides to act as her husband and wins her family's heart. One person whom he fails to impress is Sahiba's father (Amrish Puri). Sahiba's family consists of a smiling grandmother (Sushma Seth), a jovial uncle (Anupam Kher) who is more a friend than an uncle, an understanding aunt (Tanvi Azmi) all of who take a great liking to Karan. Meanwhile, Karan and Sahiba fall in love and the duo no longer has to pretend as a married couple. But there is a twist in the tale. Karan has already made promises and commitments to his one-time close friend Sonali Bendre. How he goes through this emotional ordeal and wins the lady of his dreams is what Dhai Akshar..'s climax is all about. Raj Kanwar has woven an interesting web of relationships in the film. He handles an emotional subject (his forte) deftly and at the same time retains all the commercial elements of a Mumbai masala. Jatin-Lalit’s music is not of much consequence. Living up to her standards, Aishwarya again comes up with an emotion-charged performance. The characteristic ease with which she carries herself before the camera is quite commendable. As for Abhishek Bachchan, his lukewarm performance in the film only springs disappointment in the face of the hype he has garnered owing to his distinguished pedigree. Although his emotive range seems to have widened a mite, it still is a long way for him until he could clinch the title of a superstar. In a nutshell, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke is an ambitious attempt to ruffle the feathers, but the film falls in rating due to the absence of the zing factor in Junior B. Copyright 2008 ApunKaChoice.com.
