The Footpath Movie Review

'Footpath' revolves around three friends - Arjun (Aftab Shivdasani), Raghu (Emraan Hashmi) and Shekhar (Rahul Dev). Been born and brought up in Mumbai, all three have seen the harsh realities of life.

Life is full of fun and masti as the three go about their life with a carefree attitude. But things take a sudden turn after Arjun's father is murdered. Filled with vengeance, Arjun and his friends avenge the father's death.

But the very act puts Arjun in the toplist of Mumbai police and Mafia. A hapless Arjun is then left with no other option but to flee Mumbai and take refuge in Delhi.

However, the police succeed in tracing Arjun in Delhi. The cops then force him into a mission that is full of betrayal against his childhood friends.

Director Vikram Bhatt has tried to present the story with authenticity without resorting to the eye-catching and glaring cinematography. 'Footpath' is dark and partly surreal.

The dialogues in the film are very Mumbaiyya, the ambience and overall setting is again very Mumbai-centric. The film starts off pretty well and the pace is maintained right through the first half-an-hour, but the narrative loses its pace when heroes start romancing the heroines.

Aftab Shivdasani does complete justice to his role of a guy who is first sucked into the world of crime and then has to play a 'rat' among his very own friends.

Rahul Dev too leaves an impact in his rather 'reticent' role and debutant Emraan Hashmi carries off the role without being loud. Bipasha Basu, on the other hand, has nothing to do other than look pretty. The only scene where she scores is the one when she reveals to Aftab that she is pregnant.

On the whole, 'Footpath' might have been a gripping movie had Vikram roped in some famous faces to play the leading roles. Even Mahesh Bhatt has come up with a half-baked script for the movie.
