Come April 14, and Tamil filmdom will witness a clash of the superstars. For, scheduled for release on that day are both Kamal Haasan's 'Mumbai Xpress' and Rajnikant's 'Chandramukhi'.
Both are aware that it would be a star war with no holds barred. Therefore, the rivals have pulled out all the stops to ensure the success of their respective films. It's a tussle Mollywood is eagerly looking forward to.
So, take 'Mumbai Xpress' and enjoy the world of fun, breathtaking stunt acts and thrills.
Avinash (Kamal) is a daredevil stuntman who does stunning feats on the motorbike. Because of his audacious acts, he is known as Mumbai Xpress. Needless to say, he is the pivot the film revolves on.
Rajkamal has packed the movie with ingredients that appeal to one and all, although it is a comedy of the first order.
It unfolds a kidnap drama as well that affects the lives of a few people in Mumbai.
Of course, the kidnappers do not reckon with Avinash alias Mumbai Xpress.
The film is made in two languages, Hindi and Tamil. The cast of the two versions is largely separate except for the lead pair - Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala and the boy.
Kamal has a surprise in store for you in the form of a ten-year-old boy, with a horse and a monkey thrown in.
It's not without titillators, too. Rakhi Sawant and Mun Mun provide the glamour quotient in a sizzler of an item song.
Kamal films and controversies have always gone together. Mumbai Xpress is no exception. The movie ran into trouble with political parties like the Dalit Panthers and the Pattali Makkal Katchi over the title. Both the parties wanted the movie to have a Tamil name.
And a note of warning was sounded as well. Failure to change the name would invite unpleasant consequences, Kamal was told. That the superstar chose to ignore the threat is a different matter. So, the name 'Mumbai Xpress' remains.
Kamal does not believe in repetitions. So, 'Mumbai Xpress' has its share of novelties.
A notable feature is that Kamal himself has done the story, screenplay and dialogues. While Siddharth handles the camera, Vaalee has penned the lyrics. The music composer is veteran Ilayaraja.
The film has been produced by Chandra Haasan and Kamal Haasan.
All in all, a visual treat awaits innumerable Kamal fans on April 14. Mollywood is waiting with bated breath for the clash of the superstar movies.
Who will emerge victorious? Your guess is as good as mine!
