'Rocky' - Falls Flat

By Neha Kewal
Film critic, ApunKaChoice.Com

A rebellious young man stands up to fight against everything unjust. It is a story we have seen umpteen times.

Director Suresh Krissna takes the old-as-hills concept and tries to renovate it through some adrenalin pumping action, stylish cinematography and Himesh Reshammiya’s high-pitched compositions to boot. Consequently, ‘Rocky : The Rebel’ ends up as an old wine re-stirred in a new bottle.

The

film’s biggest flaw is its old and outdated concept from the films of 70’s and 80’s, which may not do any magic on the box-office. It has nothing new except the cast. And sadly, the cast too offers little to hold one’s attention.

The story revolves around a cool, fun-loving guy Rocky (Zayed Khan) who hates the system that is full of corruption and crooks. He cannot accept any injustice and revolts against anyone corrupt. His father warns Rocky that this attitude will land him in a big problem. But Rocky calls his father a coward and fights against all odds.

To my great amusement, the director has shown the lanky Zayed Khan as an extra-powerful man who can fight 10 gundas alone.

Rocky’s life runs smooth and he falls in love with Neha (Isha Sharvani). But then one day Rocky clashes with a local don Anthony (Rajat Bedi) and revolts against him.

The story keeps running on the same pace and track up to interval, but then Rocky’s world shatters when Neha is killed right in front of him. Broken and dejected, Rocky leaves India and moves to London after being pressurized by his parents.

The second half of the film trudges at a very slow pace. Rocky changes his nature. He remains aloof and never revolts against anything bad.

But soon his parents realize that they should be proud of their brave son who can fight against injustice. They return to India and motivate him to take revenge from Anthony who killed his beloved one.

Songs and story do not gel very well. The director fails to give the songs the right timing in the plot and some of them are literally shoved down your throat. However, some songs like ‘Junoon’ and ‘Lagi Chhutte Na’ are nice compositions on which you can tap your feet.

Stunts in the movie are executed well. Zayed acts well, but at some points he become unnecessarily loud. The director has left very little scope for the actress. Although the movie has two heroines, none of them has much to perform.

Still, whatever was offered to them they did it relatively well. Isha Sharvani dances well and Minnisha Lamba also does justice to her little role.

Other actors including Rajat Bedi have given a good performance.

But when it comes to the real thing, the story, ‘Rocky’ is just like an obsolete concept which has nothing new and entertaining to offer.
