Salaam Namaste is about two young people in love-n-fight relationship with each other. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta in the leading roles, the movie marks the directorial debut of Siddharth Raj Anand who assisted Kunal Kohli during the making of Hum Tum.
Saif plays Nick, a head Chef in a famous restaurant named 'Nick of Time' in Melbourne. A laidback man with an easygoing attitude, Nick came from Ludhiana as Nikhil Arora.
Nick hates waking up early in the morning. His only passion is to cook, party and to live life free of any commitments.
Ambar Malhotra (Preity) came from Bangalore to Melbourne to study medicine. But the major reason for her love towards Melbourne is that she doesn't have to keep meeting suitors that her parents back home want her to marry.
She works part-time as a radio jockey at the radio station, 'Salaam Namaste', where she gets to interview Indians living in Melbourne.
As the movie's story goes, Nick is invited to one of Ambar's shows. But, being the easygoing man that he is, Nick oversleeps and misses the interview.
A furious Ambar decides to teach him a lesson or two in punctuality and discipline.
Sometimes the opposites attract each other. Despite their contrastingly different views on many things, Nick and Ambar are drawn towards each other.
They don't want to rush into a serious romantic relationship. They decide to do something more unusual instead.
Nick and Ambar begin to live in together. They share the same apartment but sleep in different rooms.
The two lovers begin to share their lives with each other. They share many tender moments like watching movies, canoeing and partying on beaches.
It's easy to fall in love. But to share life with someone is a different thing altogether.
Slowly, this truth comes to the fore as the tender moments that Nick and Ambar share begin to get punctuated by petty squabbles and flaring tempers.
Now the question remains whether Nick and Ambar's love story will have a happy denouement? Would Nick be able to give up his happy-go-lucky lifestyle and commit to a long marital relationship with Ambar?
'Salaam Namaste' is a Yash Raj Films production. The movie is a romantic comedy. The basic theme of the movie is that love sometimes happens in the most unlikely of circumstances and with the most unlikely of people.
The film is slated to hit the marquee this September.
