'Aathi' is 'Ilaya Dalapati' Vijay 's Pongal gift to the Kollywood fans. The Number 2 in Tamil cinema is hoping to make a hat-trick of success with 'Aathi'. Two of his earlier films 'Tirupachi' and Sivakasi have been smashing hits.
'Aathi' is also Vijay's third film with queen bee of Tollywood Trisha Krishnan . Their two earlier films like 'Ghilli' and 'Tirupachi' have been blockbusters. The Vijay-Trisha pair is one of the most popular combinations in Kollywood.
In 'Aathi' Vijay plays a college student who fights against injustice. It is an action thriller punctuated with a lot of stunt scenes and breathtaking special effects. Trisha plays his love angle. Malayalam actor Saikumar is the villain. And in Vijay's own words, Sai has done a fantastic job.
Vijayakumar plays Vijay's grandfather in the film while Prakashraj and Amita play his parents.
The others in the cast are Nasser, Sneha Nambiar, Livinston, Malavika, Rajan P. Dev, Manivannan, Rajkapur, Damu and Sita. Vivek will provide the comedy angle.
Music by Vidyasagar has become extremely popular. The song "Olli Olli Idupe" is already a chart-buster.
The film, scheduled for a Pongal release (on January 14) has been produced by Vijay's father SA Chandrashekhar.
Director Ramana has also written the screenplay of the movie, which is a remake of popular Telugu film, "Athanokkade" which featured Kalyan Ram, Soindhu and Ashish Vidyarthi in the lead roles.
