'Kattradhu Tamizh' -Gripping

‘Kattradhu Tamizh’ is a class film that scents the Tamil cinemascape suffocating under the miasma of mediocrity.

Debutant director Ram Subbu deserves fulsome praise for trying to be different with a film that seeks to tackle a serious theme.

Also

deserving kudos is the protagonist Jeeva, whose interpretation of the lead role is simply outstanding.

The film highlights the raw deal being meted out to Tamils and the hero’s efforts to do something about it. Hero Prabhakar (Jeeva) is a Tamil teacher who is saddened by the step-motherly treatment to Tamils in its home state.

Unable to do anything about it, Prabhakar first attempts suicide and then turns a rebel who begins killing people.

The transformation of a simple man into a psychopath has been portrayed with telling effect. Jeeva’s performance as the psychopath is especially convincing. The body language is menacing and the expressions effective. With a mere look and twitch of the facial muscles Jeeva conveys the whole gamut of emotions.

The flashback reveals Prabhakar’s past. He is brought up by a Tamil teacher (director Azhafam Perumal). Prabhakar’s affection for his childhood girlfriend Anandhi (Anjali) turns into love later in life. In fact, it is the loving care of Anandhi that brings Prabhakar back into normal life.

Newcomer Anjali has really got under the skin of the character. She is the find of the film, in a way. Expressive eyes and a natural ability to emote are her twin assets. No doubt, Anjali will go a long way in her career.

Director Ram Subbu’s job is facilitated by the brilliant screenplay, Yuvan Raja Shankar’s peppy music and R Kadir’s captivating frames.

‘Kattradhu Tamizh’ is a must-watch film.
