The smaller halo that surrounded the idiot box is expanding to form the real big one, and the idiot box is slowly giving way to the respectable Television.

Not very long ago, film stars getting down to television was almost considered a peccadillo. It meant that their ratings were nose-diving and the silver screen was shunning them. The scenario has changed. Today, the tube has a liberal sprinkling of top actors and superstars.

Since long, movie stars have been shifting focus to television. The shift began with stars like Arun Govil, Vijayendra Ghatge, Poonam Dhillon, Neena Gupta, Farha, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Kiran Kumar, Kanwaljeet, Rajesh Khanna, Kiron Kher, Shashikala, Dheeraj Kumar, Bhagyashree and many many more stars.

Top stars like Hema Malini, Rajesh Khanna also looked towards the tube to give vent to their creative urges. Finally, money-spinning show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' did the ultimate. It brought the living cinema legend Amitabh Bachchan to tele.

Once television got this sanctity, there was no looking back. Stars now, behave less like stars and more like artistes who should not have reservations about the medium of expression. The latest star to join tele's star brigade is Vinod Khanna.

Khanna who captured the hearts of millions in films like Qurbani, Amar Akbar Anthony and Parvarish is going to the small screen with a serial titled 'Rang'. 'Rang' has 52 episodes and is directed by Jaidev Chakraverty and produced by Satyen Pal Choudhury, who also produced Khanna's blockbuster Hera Pheri.
