Bollywood belle Manisha Koirala unconditionally apologized to Mumbai High Court for taking her dispute with filmmaker Shashilal Nair over objectionable scenes in the film 'Ek Chhoti Si Love Story' to Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
The apology came on October 10 following the issuance of contempt notices by High Court against her and Nair for approaching an unconstitutional authority to settle the dispute when the matter was sub judice.
Manisha’s affidavit said she had met Thackeray only because he was a "family friend." There was no intention whatsoever of undermining the authority of the court, it averred.
On October 7, Nair also apologized saying that he was forced to go to Thackeray because Manisha had already approached him.
The Shiv Sainiks had stormed city theatres in an attempt to ensure that the film was not released.
Manisha's affidavit was filed by Satish Maneshinde in the court of justices R M Lodha and Dilip Bhosale.
On the last occasion Nair and Manisha had indicated that a compromise was being worked out between them. The court made a note of their submission and adjourned the matter to October 17.
Manisha had filed a civil suit in High Court urging for deletion of certain shots in 'Ek Chhoti Si Love Story' performed by her body double. Her plea was that that they were obscene and tended to lower her dignity.
Justice F I Rebello, who heard the arguments and watched the film, felt that the scenes were an integral part of the film and hence could not be deleted. The judge rejected Manisha's plea for deletion of the scene.
An aggrieved Manisha then moved a Division Bench in appeal.
