PM releases postage stamp on Harivansh Rai Bachchan

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee released a postage stamp on renowned Hindi poet Late Harivansh Rai Bachchan on his 95th birth anniversary on Thursday..
Amid the presence of dignitaries from the corporate world and members of the Bachchan family, Mr. Vajpayee read out a few stanzas of the famous 'Madhushala' and 'Agnipath', penned by the late poet.
''I would also take the 'Agnipath' (path of fire) to win the goals,'' he said while reciting the poem at a function on the banks of Gomti at Laxman Mela ground in Lucknow.
Terming as ''poet of the era'' Harivansh Rai Bachchan who depicted the philosophy of life and social evils through his works, Mr. Vajpayee said he was greatly attached with his poems.
He also narrated about how he met Harivansh Rai Bachchan the first time at Allahabad when he was a student and went to participate in a debate contest there.
Calling upon the people to remember the poems of the great literateur, Mr. Vajpayee said a 'kavi sammelan' should be held this day every year to remember the great poet.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri and mega star Amitabh Bachchan also narrated a few stanzas of his poems. Bachchan family members, including the poet's daughter-in-law Jaya, grandson Abhishek, granddaughter Shweta along with her husband Nikhil Nanda and in-laws were also present at the function.
Reliance vice-chairman Anil Ambani, his wife Tina, Godrej chief Adi and his wife Parmeshwar alongwith Sahara India chief Subroto Roy Sahara were also present.
