SCOOP!! & NEWS Sharmila Tagore to take over as Censor Board Chief13th Oct 2004 22.16 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore is to take over as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBIC) following the decision of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to remove senior actor Anupam Kher . Confirming this, I&B sources said Mr. Kher had earlier been asked to step down as chief of the CBFC who had been appointed by the National Democratic Alliance government. 
While declining to comment on the letter received by him from the I&B Ministry in this regard in Mumbai early this morning, Mr. Kher had appeared unwilling to resign but said he would speak to the media tomorrow in this regard. He indicated that he preferred to be removed than resign voluntarily. ''I have not received any official communication still... I will be addressing a press conference in this regard in New Delhi tomorrow,'' Mr. Kher said. Earlier last month, Mr. Kher had told the government that it was not possible for the Board to censor television programming.
