SCOOP!! & NEWS Amateur director’s film from IFFI short-listed for Cannes04th Dec 2004 18.13 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Beating several impressive films that were being showcased at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, a movie made by an amateur has been short listed for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film, screened at IFFI, was made as part of a unique initiative "24x7" under which amateur filmmakers were given a camera and other equipment and asked to make a fiction film within 24 hours on nature and violence. 
The film was watched by the delegates from Cannes and has been short-listed, filmmaker Dev Benegal , who curated the competition, said, but declined to give details of the film and its Director. "All we can say at this point is that the film has been short-listed but I do not want to give any detail as it is a delicate situation right now and we do not want to jeopardize the prospects of the film", he said. "Number 24 is very instrumental in this competition. The duration of the film has to be not less than 24 seconds and not more than 24 minutes and the participants have be within 24 years", said Benegal, pointing out that to make a film in 24 hours and give it a world premiere at a film festival was a platform that most film makers would dream about.
