Javed Akhtar's poems come to aid of tsunami victims 29th Jan 2005

It was a special `Evening with Javed Akhtar ' for Delhiites, with the proceeds of the poetry recital by the noted lyricist going to the aid of tsunami victims.
Akhtar enthralled audiences at the Jamia Millia University auditorium last evening, reciting select poems as well as some of his popular Bollywood lyrics.
"The mighty tsunami waves struck their victims irrespective of their religion caste or creed, but they generated another great wave of sympathy throughout the country resulting in a united effort in providing relief to the survivors," Akhtar said on the occasion.
The programme was jointly organised by Nagrik Surkasha Samiti, a collaborative effort between Delhi Police and citizen's groups to prevent crimes, and Jamia Millia University.
An amount of Rs 12 lakh were donated to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, the amount raised among the staff and students of the University and members of the Samiti.
"By such efforts, we prove that we are with the Prime Minister in his resolve of providing relief and rehabilitation to thousands of our countrymen faced with the tragedy," Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul said.
