SCOOP!! & NEWS Akali Dal seeks immediate ban on 'Jo Bole So Nihaal'18th May 2005 14.51 IST By Agencies The Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday sought immediate ban on controversial film Jo Bole So Nihaal , saying it has "misused" the Sikh community slogan, even as a demonstration was staged and posters of the movie were torn by protestors in front of a cinema hall in Kanpur. "The producer of the film has misused the holy Sikh community slogan (Bole So Nihaal)," SAD chief and former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal told reporters after chairing the party's Political Affairs Committee meeting in Chandigarh. 
He said Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a 15-member panel of Sikh intellectuals, which would submit its report on the film on May 19. A sub-committee of the Akal Takhat had given "clean chit" to the Hindi film starring Sunny Deol . However, after several Sikh organisations and political outfits expressed outrage over the film, the Akal Takhat had written to the SGPC to form a panel to look into its contents. Sikh protestors in Kanpur on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of a city cinema hall screening the movie and tore posters of the film, police said. However, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control, they said. Meanwhile, the Kashi Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee flayed the film for "hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community by loosely invoking its slogan." The Sikhs take pride in invoking 'Bole So Nihaal', on the occasion of religious functions or celebrating victories, but in the film the slogan has been "loosely chanted" by the artists in comedy sequences which "undermined the religious sanctity of the slogan," KGPC spokesman Harjinder Singh Rajput told reporters in Varanasi.
