Mumbai police on Tuesday denied media reports that underworld gangster Chhota Rajan had threatened eminent filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma over his soon-to-be-released movie D for glorifying rival gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
"I have myself spoken to Verma and he said that he never received any such call," Joint Commissioner of Police Meera Borwankar told reporters in Mumbai.
A leading daily Tuesday reported that the gangster had called Verma and asked him not to glorify his rival Dawood Ibrahim in the film.
Borwankar also expressed dismay at several reports that have appeared recently about gangsters making threatening calls and said the newspapers should be careful and get a proper confirmation before publishing such stories.
