Veteran thespian and filmmaker Dev Anand will be felicitated at Nepal’s first National Film Festival next month.
Dev sahib is quite popular in the Himalayan kingdom. Over three decades ago, when he was a good friend of the late Nepalese king Mahendra, his films – Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Johnny Mera Naam – were shot in Nepal. Both films played an important role in promoting Nepal as a tourist destination in India.
And now, Dev sahib has got an invite to visit Kathmandu for the first National Film Festival of Nepal, scheduled tentatively from July 11-17. The festival will honor Dev sahib with a Special National Film Award for his contribution to the Himalayan kingdom's film industry.
According to one Nepalese director, when Dev Anand came to shoot his movies in Nepal, it gave employment to many local technicians and “taught Nepal's fledgling industry the art of direction.”
Dev Anand is expected to arrive in Kathmandu on July 14. He will be accompanied by his son Suneil.
Other invitees to the event include actress Manisha Koirala (who is of Nepalese origin) and Pahlaj Nihalani, chairman of Hindi film producers’ association.
