Upset by the “distortion of facts” in the forthcoming film The Rising , people in Mangal Pandey's native Ballia district on Thursday held demonstrations demanding deletion of the “offending” portions.
Taking out a mock funeral procession to vent their ire, some Ballia residents under the banner of 'Swaraj Darshan', a local theatre group, burnt an effigy of filmmaker Ketan Mehta , at the district headquarters.
Raising slogans, they demanded that the “distorted portions” in the film about Pandey's life be immediately removed and the native village of the martyr be picturised in the film.
The activists warned that they would give a call for a nationwide protest if their demands were not met.
Set against the backdrop of the Indian Mutiny of 1857, 'Mangal Pandey - The Rising' tells the tale of a heroic sepoy who spearheaded the movement that later became the struggle for Indian freedom from the colonial British.
