Karisma, Sunjay make 'good progress' towards settlement

Karisma Kapoor and her industrialist husband Sunjay Kapur have made "reasonably good progress" towards settlement of disputes between them arising out of the actress' bid to take their daughter abroad, the couple informed Delhi High Court on Friday.

"They have made reasonably good progress.... They are fairly close to settlement but have not yet resolved the dispute," Senior counsel Ashok Desai, representing Sunjay Kapur told Justice Mukul Mudgal.

As Karisma's counsel Mahesh Jethmalani and Arvind Nigam agreed with Desai, both the parties urged Justice Mudgal to hold the proceedings in his chamber, as they wanted to update the court about the progress made towards settlement.

The chamber hearing lasted for over 30 minutes during which Central Government counsel Kailash Gambhir was present for about 10 minutes.

Later, Justice Mukul Mudgal adjourned the case to September 27 as the couple sought a "little more time" to resolve the issues arising out of Sunjay's petition seeking to restrain Karisma from taking their daughter Samaira abroad.

The Court had on August 30 prevailed over Sunjay and Karisma to talk to each other to sort out their differences amicably in the interest of their five-month-old daughter.

Both the sides had agreed to the court's suggestion to settle their discord without creating much ill will towards each other.

The court had asked them to report back the progress made in thrashing out their differences by the next date.

Sunjay was present in the court during the hearing.
