HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Preeti Jain gets bail05th Oct 2005 09.00 IST By Agencies A Mumbai sessions court on Tuesday granted bail to aspiring actress Preeti Jain, arrested three weeks ago on charges of conspiracy to murder film maker Madhur Bhandarkar , saying her custody at present was not required for probe. Observing that although police have "a prima facie case" against Jain, the court said her custody at this juncture was not required for probe. 
"There is a case," (against her) sessions Judge Abhay Thipasay remarked, adding further that at this stage the court need not take a "harsh view" of the matter. Jain, who hit the headlines when she accused Bhandarkar of sexually exploiting her, was arrested last month by city police on the charge of hiring Naresh Pardeshi, aid of gangster-turned MLA Arun Gawli, for murdering Bhandarkar. The judge, while granting Jain bail on personal bond of Rs 15,000 and surety of same amount, noted that the offence she has been charged with is only that of conspiracy and not murder. The court also directed her to surrender the passport and present herself for inquiry at the Agripada police station in the city between 10 am to 5.30 pm daily. This apart, the court barred her from leaving city-limits of either Mumbai or neighbouring Thane without permission of the investigating officer. Related Madhur Bhandarkar |
