HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS IT Raids premises of A R Rahman and other film personalities27th Oct 2005 09.00 IST By Agencies Income tax officials on Wednesday raided the premises of several film personalities, including internationally-acclaimed music composer A R Rahman , and seized cash, jewellery and documents to the value of several crores of rupees in Chennai. The raids were conducted on the premises of 20 film personalities "basically to unearth unaccounted money", Chief Commissioner of I.T. And DG investigation Santhosh Dutta told reporters in Chennai on Wednesday night. 
"We (department) acted on the basis of information and the whole process began about two months ago," he said. The searches, which began at around 8.00AM, by a team of about 300 personnel continued late into the evening and it will take a few more days to give exact details, he said. Besides Rahman, others whose houses were raided were actors Vivek, Vikram , Vijay , Trisha Krishnan , Sneha , Silambarasan, Surya and 'Jayam' Ravi, financiers Sanjay Wadhwani, Subash Nager and Pankaj Mehta, directors and producers 'Oscar' Ravichandran, T Rajendran, S A Chandrasekhar and I S Shankar music directors Harris Jayaraj and Yuvan Shankar Raja and playback singers Srinivas and Mano. Besides seizure of cash and fixed deposits worth Rs one crore, the raiding teams recovered documents of property worth between Rs five to Rs six crore, Dutta said adding keys of some safe deposit lockers were also located. He said the department would evaluate the jewellery and determine whether the seized cash and jewellery were accounted for in income tax returns.
