'Sholay' included in school textbook

The ultimate cult movie Sholay , which starred Dharmendra , Hema Malini , Amitabh Bachchan , Jaya Bachchan , Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan in the lead roles, has been included in a school textbook.

This is the first time in the history of Bollywood that the complete chapter of a film has been included in a textbook and has been assigned to be taught for CBSE syllabus of Class V.

The Bollywood as a whole has welcomed the initiative hoping that future good film may also have the same place in educational field.

Ramesh Sippy , the director of ‘Sholay’ and his son Rohan Sippy are happy for the inclusion of the film in the textbook.

Sippy said, "it's a good start and I cannot remain without appreciating it. I am sure that children will improve their educational standard from good Bollywood films."

Sippy has expressed a strong hope that the move taken by the educational authorities will lead to the greater common good of giving Indian cinema the justice that it deserves.

"Children are told that they can become doctors and engineers. Now, they will also have a perspective on what will happen if they decide to become a filmmaker," he said.

Rohan Sippy said, "My daddy made this historic film, which depicts our culture and it's a great decision that it is now in the curriculum".

"Not only in India but in international cinema houses, an average movie goer has seen this picture at least twice", Rohan said.

As per official confirmation, a chapter on ‘Sholay’ follows a chapter on films and filmmaking in the board textbook on English language, which will be available in the market next week.
