'My Brother Nikhil' wins award at Milan film fest

Bollywood director Onir's My Brother Nikhil , a thought provoking movie about an HIV affected man’s quest to be loved, has won the 'Audience Choice' award at the Milan Gay and Lesbian film festival early this month.

In a release in Mumbai on Friday, Onir said with his film being screened and nominated this year, it has brought Indian cinema back in the limelight. Coming together from three corners of the world, Europe, USA and Oceania, they are named the Triangle Committee or Alliance.

"This movie being my debut effort has been very special to me and it feels very nice to see it gaining its deserving position. All its screenings were applauded and were house-packed. And this overwhelming response to my movie is very satisfying and it feels just amazing," he said while reacting to the news that his film 'My Brother Nikhil' was being centerstaged at Milan Film Festival and nominated for TMG awards.

The release said the film has also been screened at and nominated for TMG Global Media Award. The awards are in aid of Eliminating Barriers for Foreign Artistes in Global Media and Art campaign.

Felicitating people who represented their country globally and their contribution towards a social cause.

The TMG Global Media award had also been conferred upon Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai for her achievements in the mainstream media in 2004 and last year’s nominations included celebrities like Karan Johar , Aamir Khan , Farah Khan and movies like 'Bend It Like Beckham' and Monsoon Wedding .

Onir’s forthcoming project is Bas Ek Pal starring Urmila Matondkar , Sanjay Suri , Juhi Chawla , Jimmy Shergill and Rehaan Engineer, which is ready for release in the last week of August.

The film, which has styling by Anita Dongre and music by Pritam and Viveck Philip, is in quite contrast to its predecessor ‘My Brother Nikhil’.
