HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Gandhigiri gripping Lucknow?05th Oct 2006 09.27 IST By Agencies Lage Raho Munnabhai may have lost the race for the tag for getting India's official entry for the Oscars but "Gandhigiri' propagated by it seems to be telling on an otherwise indifferent administration in Lucknow. Lucknow witnessed a series of protests a la ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ style in the past fortnight over issues ranging from shifting of a liquor shop from near a temple to holding students union elections in Lucknow University. 
The protestors sporting Gandhi caps presented roses to people on the streets and to concerned authorities in a bid to draw their attention towards their problems. "You can't do anything...There is no slogan-shouting nor is there any violence...You have to accede to their demands most of the times', said a senior district official who came across Gandhigiri recently. Gandhigiri had drawn praise from the common people who say a peaceful demonstration causes little or no inconvenience, as traffic is not interrupted. It has also come as a big relief for security personnel who do not have to swing lathis nor chase the protestors offering roses. There is no tension in the air...Even a very small number of security personnel can handle such demonstrations', said a police officer.
