HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Sonu Nigam joins kids for peace march01st Jan 2007 12.00 IST By Agencies Well-known singer Sonu Nigam and ace shooter Jaspal Rana joined hundreds of school children in a peace march held at the India Gate in New Delhi to promote awareness against terrorism. A pledge to "eradicate the roots of terrorism, communalism and separatism and uphold the unity and integrity of the country" was taken by Nigam and Rana along with M S Bitta, Chairman of All-India Anti-Terrorist Front, who organised the event on the New Year eve.
Scores of tourists from across the country visiting India Gate enthusiastically joined the children raising slogans like 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. Rana, Nigam and Bitta released balloons in the air on the occasion. Talking to reporters, Nigam said a sense of respect for human life should be cultivated to eliminate the scourge of terrorism. "People should understand that you cannot attain a certain goal by killing someone or creating panic. The importance of life should be understood. When you are killing someone, what happens to his wife, children and parents? That respect for life should be inculcated through proper education and good upbringing," he said. Rana said the evil of terrorism should be defeated and hoped that peace and happiness would spread in the New Year. Bitta said the march aimed at raising awareness on terrorism and the message should be spread in every nook and corner of the country. December 31, at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai.
