Rashtriya Lok Dal workers on Friday tried to disrupt the screening of singer-cum-actor Himesh Reshammiya's film Aap Ka Suroor at a theatre in Varanasi.
The party workers are accusing Himesh Reshammiya of hurting the religious sentiments of the minority community by visiting the Ajmer dargah wearing a burqa.
The RLD activists led by one Iqbal Ahmad congregated at the Saajan theatre and burnt the effigy of Reshammiya and posters of the film, shouting slogans against him.
The protestors also tried to disrupt the screening of the film before a police team rushed to the spot and persuaded the agitators to call off their stir.
Reshammiya had visited the dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer earlier this week wearing a burqa to hide his identity and later apologised for the same after objections were raised by some people.
