Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's Diwali release Saawariya and Amitabh Bachchan starrer The Last Lear are among over 50 movies that will be screened during the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council film festival that will culminate in a star-studded award gala on November 11 in New York.

Besides the two big films, Feroz Abbas Khan 's Gandhi My Father , Rituparno Ghosh 's 'Dosar' and Pan Nalin's 'Valley of Flowers' will also be shown at the festival.

The films to be showcased in the festival mostly include short films and documentaries by small independent producers who find difficult to showcase their work.

The organizers have also launched a concept of 'Script Link' which brings budding writer in contact with the producers and directors. The organisers said 14 writers have been selected in the first year.

Among one of the highlights of the festival is 'Aid Jaago Project' which will present four short dramatic films by directors Mira Nair , Vishal Bharadwaj , Santosh Sivan and Farhan Akhtar which aim to dismantle myths and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS.

Winners in best film, best actor and best actress categories will get a cash prize of 10,000 dollars each.

"Through its corporate responsibility, the Mahindra Group is committed to support IAAC's endeavours to promote the voice of new South Asian cinema," Anand G Mahindra, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra said.
