Rajat Kapoor to host a quiz show on TV

Actor-director Rajat Kapoor , who is known for playing realistic characters in films like Corporate and Bheja Fry will now don the cap of a quizmaster in a TV show.

The show, "Lufthansa Nat Geo Genius", which will test the geographical knowledge of the participants, will hit the idiot box from Saturday.

"I was nervous and apprehensive as I have never done something like this. But I should say I have learnt a lot especially about geography," says Kapoor.

"It involves different skills. While acting you slip into a character, but in hosting you got to be yourself and perform at the same time. So it is involves a funny skill," he adds.

So does he want to act in TV serials too? "No, never," prompt comes the reply.

"I find the economics of TV industry very bizarre, so I don't have any desire to work in these TV serials, he says.

"I have certain sensibility of cinema and so I deliberately do roles which are more true and real. I don't like characters which come out of Mars," he adds.

So what does he think about his next directorial venture "Mithya," which will hit the theatres next month?

"It is a concept based on a conversation between two mythological characters, i.e Narad and Lord Vishnu. During the conversation Lord Vishnu explains Narad the meaning of 'Maya'. It was from there that I got the inspiration for the script of the film," says Kapoor.

The new-age director, whose films, "Ragu Romeo" and "Mixed Doubles" touched a chord with the critic reveals that he wanted to make the film nine years back with Naseeruddin Shah .

"I wrote this script nine years back and wanted to make it then with Naseeruddin Shah as the lead, but I couldn't arrange the resources. Now it is being done by Ranveer Shorey and Naseerji is playing a different character," he says.

Kapoor has his hands full with a variety of roles and is gung ho about it.

"I have just completed "Raat Gayee to Baat Gayee" for which I had to sport a beard. I also needed to shave my head for Saurav Shukla's, "I am 24". I am also doing Satish Kaushik's "Tere Sang" and Sunil Doshi's "Halla," he says.

With two National Awards under his belt for his films, "Hypnosis" and "Tarana", and an array of films to his credit he is one of the finest actors but ask him and he says, he wants to make more films and move on.

"I have number of scripts at my disposal and want to make film on all of them. I always wanted to be a director. Acting in films happened to me but I am happy because it was after my acting career took off that I could gather enough resource to make my kind of films," says Kapoor, who raised money for his film, "Raghu Romeo" on the Internet.

An ardent film freak, Kapoor ranks Charlie Chaplin as the greatest director ever. So who would be his dream director?

"I would like to work with American filmmaker Woody Allen," he quips.
