HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS 'Jodhaa Akbar' not released in Rajasthan, faces protests in UP15th Feb 2008 16.00 IST By Agencies Ashutosh Gowarikar-directed film Jodhaa Akbar was released across India on Friday, except in Rajasthan cinema halls amid protests by Rajput groups against "distortion of historical facts" in the movie based on Mughal emperor Akbar. The film was not released in 30 cinema halls across Rajasthan including nine in the Pink City. 
According to Rajputs in Rajasthan, Jodhaa was the daughter of Udai Singh of Marwar and was not married to Akbar but to his son Salim (also known as Jahangir). Karni Sena patron Lokendra Kalvi had said: "The Rajputs cannot tolerate any distortion of historical facts, especially in relations between the Mughal emperor Akbar and Jodhabai," he said on Thursday. Meanwhile, there were protests against the film in Uttar Pradesh. Security of cinema halls has been beefed up in Lucknow amid protests organised by the Akhil Bhartiya Kshetriya Mahasabha (ABKM), a Rajput group, over the screening of ‘Jodhaa Akbar’. Activists of ABKM, led by its Vice President Kunwar Pratap Singh, staged a protest demonstrating against "distortion of historical facts" in the film and demanded its immediate withdrawal. Singh said that their protest would continue until their demands were met. Meanwhile, security at the cinema halls screening the film has been stepped up and the movie was being shown as per the schedule, police sources said.
