Protesting the depiction of Jodhabai as Akbar's wife in the just released Jodhaa Akbar , members of the Rajput community in Indore on Saturday pelted stones at a multiplex and tried to ransack it.
"Eight person, including two women, were arrested for trying to ransack Velocity multiplex and a case registered against them," Additional Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Jain said.
The action was taken on a complaint filed by the multiplex management.
The arrested workers reportedly belong to Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha.
The protesters on Friday burnt posters of 'Jodhaa Akbar' in protest against what they called "distortion of historical facts" in the movie based on Mughal emperor Akbar.
Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha's city president Gyan Singh Chouhan, alleged that it was a question of "integrity of Rajputs" as Jodhaa was never married to Akbar.
Meanwhile, police beefed up security around cinema halls screening the film that stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan in the title roles and is directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar .
"Security of those visiting the cinema halls will be ensured. No organisation will be allowed to take law in their hands," the ASP added.
