HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Toshiba names Vidya Balan as brand ambassador17th Apr 2008 09.00 IST By Agencies Toshiba India, a subsidiary of Japan's Toshiba Corporation, has named actress Vidya Balan as its brand ambassador for the company's new range of consumer durables like LCD televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and notebooks. At a press conference in Mumbai Tuesday, Yuzo Kato, Managing Director of Toshiba India said Vidya will add to the appeal of our products and services in India.
Vidya said she was indeed using the products of the company before deciding on endorsement. "My first notebook pc was that of Toshiba," she said. "We are particularly delighted to have Vidya Balan as the face of the Toshiba brand in India. We are extremely aware of the good will and regard she enjoys from her inestimable fan following throughout the country, across generations and regions", Kato said. The company, though a late entrant in India, is aiming for at least 10 per cent market share in the consumer durables over the next couple of years. While in the longer term, it is targetting revenues of $1 billion dollar by the year 2015. Kato said the company does not have plans to set up manufacturing unit in India and it would source its requirements from its factories in China, Japan and Thailand.
