HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Prakash Jha honoured with Kostas Kyriazias award06th June 2008 09.00 IST By Agencies The Kostas Kyriazias award for 2008 was bestowed on noted filmmaker Prakash Jha at a special ceremony in Athens. Named after the owner and founder of Greece's oldest newspaper 'Ethnos', the Costas Kyriazias Foundation presents the yearly awards to individuals and organisations that promote human values, press freedom and cultural collaboration. 
Greek's most prestigious Honorary Award was presented to Jha at a special ceremony held in Athens on Thursday. Jha is the first film director to receive this award. Prof N Kyriazis of the Kostas Kyriazis foundation said this award is in recognition of Jha's work and personality, and as a brilliant representative of the new generation of Indian artists. "I am feeling truly honoured to receive this award instituted in the name of a great revolutionary who stood for human values and the dignity of fellow human beings," Jha said in a statement from Athens. Jha has directed nine feature films including award-winning 'Damul', Apaharan , Gangaajal , 'Mrityudand', and 'Hip Hip Hurray'. He has also made several documentaries and TV series. He has won ten national awards for his films and several international awards. At present he is working on his next film, Rajniti . One of the earlier recipients of the award includes Barkha Dutt, Managing Editor of NDTV 24X7.
