HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS John Abraham receives Eco Warrior award08th June 2008 10.00 IST By Agencies Bollywood actor John Abraham was given the Eco Warrior award for his contribution to wildlife conservation on the occasion of World Environment Day in Delhi. He received the award Thursday especially for his tireless efforts to create India’s first elephant village in Maharashtra. He is also closely associated with the activities of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). 
The Eco Warrior awards are given as gratitude for crusaders who work for the cause of the environment. John has been working with grass root communities for creating habitat for animal welfare. His commitment towards elephants has helped several of these wild animals return to their natural home. 15 people were given away the honors, and John was the only Bollywood celebrity to receive the honour. The awards are an effort by Earth Matters Foundation, a brainchild of environmentalist filmmaker Mike Pandey, and were handed over to the recipients by India’s Vice President Hamid Ansari. Due to his love for wildlife conservation, John has agreed to produce a film on tigers along with environmentalist and filmmaker Mike Pandey, the duo announced at the awards function. John would be producing the film under his newly launched banner - John Abraham Entertainment. “This movie would be a docu-drama. It would be about three tiger cubs and how their mother helps them to grow,” Pandey said. At the end of the event, organized to observe the World Environment Day, John signed a campaign board and wrote: “Save wildlife, conserve forests”.
