After hiatus, Gracy Singh set to make a comeback

Out of the limelight since her big ticket debut in Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan in 2001, Gracy Singh is set to make a comeback on the big screen.

Gracy, who has been keeping a low profile since playing Sanjay Dutt 's love interest in the 2003 hit Munnabhai MBBS and appearing opposite Ajay Devgan in Gangaajal , will feature in two upcoming films -- action flick 'Deshdrohi' and 'Aseema' based on an award-winning Oriya novel.

She cites her "laid back" attitude as the reason for being practically out of celluloid for the last few years. "I was waiting for the right kind of roles to come my way. Or, you may even say that I was a little laid back.”

The ‘Lagaan’ lady accepts that there is enough competition in the industry. "It's a constant grind, but that helps you grow," she says.

Gracy, who is "very excited" about her upcoming projects, says, "I have finished shooting for 'Deshdrohi’ in which I am doing an action role for the first time. I went through many rehearsals with fight masters for the same."

But isn't 'action' a genre that is very unlikely of her?

"That's the beauty of it. Being an actor one gets to live many lives in one life, and that's something that excites me a lot," she says enthusiastically.

Gracy is playing the lead in the film and is cast opposite Kamal Khan . "I have done a lot of stunts, and I enjoyed preparing for them too."

'Aseema,' in which she plays the title role, is about a girl's journey in life. "She belongs to a rich family and her upbringing never lets her get the feel of the real world. But, she realises what life is all about after she gets married. There is a beautiful love angle to it, and Aseem Merchant is cast opposite me," Gracy says.

Asked about her sole claim-to-fame 'Lagaan', Gracy candidly states, "It really makes me feel good when people remember 'Lagaan.' But for me life has moved on. I do enjoy the memories, but that doesn't make me stop working on new projects. And life has changed since then, quite a bit I would say".

The sequel of 'Munnabhai MBBS' was also a hit, but Gracy does not mind not being a part of Lage Raho Munnabhai .

"I enjoyed Munnabhai MBBS... and I cherish the experience. Also, my role did not need to be repeated, as the film primarily revolved around Munnabhai and Circuit."

Ask her to choose a personal favourite between Munnabhai MBBS and 'Gangaajal' and the former turns out to be the preferred one. "It was appreciated by the audience".

Any unfulfilled wishes?

"I am passionate about Indian culture and traditions. I would love to do a movie where I get to emote this love of mine on-screen. I would also like to portray the typical Indian woman. And yes, I definitely want to appear in at least one movie from each of the prominent regional languages of India."

And with superstars making it equally big on TV, getting back to the small screen is also an agenda for the actress who started her career with television serials.

"I never wanted to leave TV, but was forced to. I had to make a choice, as I couldn't keep doing films and TV at the same time. But, yes I would consider it again."
