Although he is known as a realist director making films on 'serious issues', writer- cum director Nagesh Kukunoor personally favours fairytale endings as he says they are far more appealing than negative ones.

Kukunoor is famous for his out-of-league films like Hyderabad Blues , Iqbal and Dor which talk about the importance of hope, love, friendship and inspiration in difficult times.

"I like happy endings in my films. Though I do not try to give any sort of message in them but if in the process of telling the story I am able to inspire someone, that's good," he says.

Kukunoor is currently in Delhi to attend the 10th Osian's Cinefan Film Festival as a jury member for 'First Film Directors Category' but the director says he doesn't like the job much.

"Directors have every right to make a film with their point of view. Picking a winner out of them is really difficult for me because I know what they go through while making a film," says Kukunoor adding that the job has given him a chance to watch some good movies though.

"I think the variety is really amazing. I have been able to watch nine movies so far," he says.

His latest film Aashayein is all set to hit the theatres soon but he is not willing to divulge much about the film which has John Abraham playing the lead character.

"All I can say about the film is that it talks about how living every moment of the life is important. Those who always wait for the right moment end up getting no chance at all," he says giving a hint about the subject line of the story.

Talking about the title of his latest film, the director said the track from 'Iqbal' inspired him to name his latest film as 'Aashayein' which he feels is an unusual word.

So what is Kukunoor's priority while making a film"?

"I want to entertain the audience first. I always want a good story to tell through my films. Yes, sometimes my philosophy comes to reflect in the film but I never try to do it consciously," he quips.

For a director who has written all his films is there any possibility to work on a script which is not written by him?

"I actually tried to do so but it did not work for me. Bollywood has lost the tradition of scriptwriting. Many scripts are written on the sets which doesn't work for me," he says.
