HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Shyam Benegal to make 'Chamki Chameli'01st Oct 2008 10.10 IST By Agencies After the release and good run of Welcome To Sajjanpur , noted director Shyam Benegal has begun work on his next project Chamki Chameli . Benegal told a news agency that the film will most likely be produced by Reliance Big Entertainment. 
"I have not finalised the cast and hence it is too early to talk about it," the filmmaker said. The project was earlier to be produced by Sanjay Gupta . Gupta's company White Feather films has denied that 'Chamki' did not happen because Priyanka Chopra refused the film and Urmila Matondkar , the second choice, had monetary issues. "Due to date problems and artistes not being comfortable about an offbeat subject, ‘Chamki’ had to be put on a backburner," Gautam Kohli, spokesperson of White Feather films, the production banner of Sanjay Gupta said. He said Gupta has always believed in the script and regrets that he could not produce it. He said Priyanka Chopra was approached for the role, but after going through the script, she felt the character was extremely negative and not something she wanted to do at that point of her career.
