Deepika Padukone's close brush with a snake

Deepika was staying with her mom at a resort called The Banyan Tree, which is right in the middle of a forest. She was shooting for the second Indian edition of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar. The photoshoot by lensman Atul Kasbekar was done only in the evenings against the setting sun.

One night, after the evening’s work, Deepika was relaxing outside her villa at the resort when to her shock she saw a snake, with its hood spread, just a few feet away from her.


Now, Deepika has an acute phobia of snakes. She doesn’t mind insects and lizards, but snakes…no way. So seeing the serpent within the attacking range of getting its fangs on her soft flesh, Deepika screamed.

“It was the scariest moment of my life. I jumped and screamed loudly,” Deepika is quoted by a Mumbai tabloid.

By the time other people came to Deepika’s rescue, the snake had slithered out of sight.

Though she was scared at seeing the snake, as an afterthought Deepika thinks it was a good omen as snakes are worshipped in India.

Well, then shouldn’t she take on a role like Preity Zinta ’s in Videsh .
