Shilpa Shetty buys stake in Rajasthan Royals

With this move Shilpa becomes the fourth Bollywood star to have a stake in an IPL team. London-based NRI businessman Raj Kundra and Shilpa invested $15.4 million in the team that was bought by a UK-based company Emerging Media Group for $67 million.

“They have bought an approximately 12 per cent stake in the team,” said Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale. The team is led by Australian spin-wizard Shane Warne and has A-level cricketers like South African captain Graeme Smith and Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson.


The ebullient actress called it a strategic business investment, while her partner Kundra told the press, “The team’s success story last year was an inspiration for me. That’s why I am investing in this team.”

Shilpa will be promoting Rajasthan Royals, and the activities related to it will top her priority this year. A music video henceforth is also in her to-do list.

It’s more of Bollywood in IPL, with that extra dash of glitz and glamour. Shahrukh Khan co-owns Kolkata Knight Riders and Preity Zinta and business honcho Ness Wadia co-own Kings XI Punjab.

With Shilpa taking the plunge into IPL, certainly many other celebs can be expected to follow suit in the coming years of Indian Premier League.
