'Taare Zameen Par' Oscar hopes dashed

It was seen as the best movie to have come out of Indian film industry in the last few years. And, to be fair, it stood a great chance to at least get an Oscar nomination, if not win the Golden man.

But the movie as been knocked out of the race for a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category.


As many as 65 films were contending for the nomination and ‘TZP’, directed by Aamir Khan , was running strong until the shortlist of nine movies was announced by the Academy on Tuesday.

Out of these nine films, four more will be knocked out and only five will get the nomination, to be announced on January 22.

A formal response from Aamir Khan is still awaited.

However, all Indian hopes are not dashed as A R Rahman and Slumdog Millionaire – which is not exactly an Indian film but has been shot in Mumbai and features Indian actors – stand not just a good chance of getting nomination(s) but also win as well.
