David Dhawan, the undisputed king of slapstick comedy, is back with yet another No 1 tag, Jodi No.1. The winsome pair of laugh riot Haseena Maan Jayegi, Govinda and Sanjay Dutt come together Jodi No.1 too. Light-eyed beauty Twinkle and newcomer Monica Bedi are leading ladies.

Two small-time crooks Jai (Sanjay Dutt) and Veeru (Govinda) are out to make some quick bucks. Brooding Jai and spunky Veeru of all-time hit Sholay have been recreated in a wilder avatar as Punjabi Puttars who call each other paaji.

Their

worse days begin when Tiger, played by Rajat Bedi, younger brother of underworld don John (Ashish Vidyarthi) is killed in a row with them. John is thirsty for the blood of his brother’s killers. On the other hand, cop (Shakti Kapoor) wants to bring the twosome under the law’s baton. Left with little choice, they flee from Mumbai.

Veeru enters Tina’s (Twinkle Khanna’s) compartment while trying to evade the ticket examiner in a train to Goa. And Jai stumbles upon an NRI’s luggage and impersonates as its owner. When they reach Goa, they get a hearty welcome from a group of people who mistake them for the NRIs.

They are lead to one Mr. Rai’s (Anupam Kher’s) swanky house where they plan to take refuge for some days. They plan to cheat Rai of his fortunes, but find out that the man is on the verge of bankruptcy, thanks to his dishonest brothers, who have been embezzling money in business deals, and incessant factory problems.

Following a severe heart attack, Rai transfers his wealth to Jai and Veeru’s name. Crooks’ conscience is pricked! They plan bale Rai out of troubles.

First they make Rai’s corrupt brothers pay through their nose. They solve the factory problem too. In between they have all the time for romantic escapades in exotic foreign locales with the Twinkle and Monica Bedi.

Jodi No.1 is void of any plot or story and the only thing that keeps you sit through the two-and-a-half hours is that one man, Govinda. He steals the show with his sleek puns. Sanjay Dutt just manages to keep the pace with him.

Their repartee is replete with double meaning and blunt humor that more often than not fail to evoke any laughter. In a particular scene Govinda enacts the comic version of the famous Bachchan-monologue with bhagwan (from Deewar).

Talented performers like Ashish Vidyarthi and Anupam Kher are simply wasted. Twinkle Khanna and Monica Bedi make their presence only when the two heroes need to cavort around the trees. Pooja Batra makes a cameo appearance for a raunchy number Mast Mast.

Overall, Jodi No.1 only adds to those run-of-the-mill films Bollywood churn out often.
