Officer review
'Officer'By N K DeoshiFilm critic, ApunKaChoice.Com Here is the story of an ideal cop who unremittingly pulverizes the legions of baddies single handedly. As the head of the Special Protection Group he provides security to top-notch people and puts himself in the line of fire between the killer and his client. But his skills and intelligence are put to test when he vows to uncover the truth surrounding the mysterious death of one of his clients. Starring
Sunil Shetty’s character—(the Officer) however looks more akin to the cop straight out of some Hollywood action flick. As a desi policewala under the veneer of videshi cop he enjoys carte blanch, uses sophisticated weaponry and fusillades the dens of villains in less than a wink—its a bit hard to swallow. But hey! What’s the fuss? Anything goes when you are watching a Hindi film. Sagar Chauhan is the ultimate protector. A punctilious and incorruptible cop he spearheads the Special Protection Unit, which specializes in providing security to VVIPs. In one such assignment, the famous tycoon Pratap Rai (Danny) hires Sagar to see about and keep a tab on his mentally depressed wife Meenal (Raveena). Sagar takes the job, but reluctantly. The proximity between Sagar and Meenal soon sprouts love in Meenal’s heart. But, for Sagar she is just another client. Meenal proposes and Sagar, being tied to his duty, turns down her proposal. Boohoo! The broken-hearted and slightly touched Meenal commits suicide. This extreme step on Meenal’s part shocks Sagar and he, conscience-ridden, retires into himself. Not a good riddance. Things take an unexpected turn when Sagar accompanies his friend Lobo Fernandes (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) to his hometown Goa where he meets Meenal’s lookalike, the ebullient Pari. The shocked Sagar wonders how two people can look so much like each other. Sensing something fishy Sagar tries to win her confidence and love. Even Pratap Rai is thrown out of his senses when he comes to know about Pari. Sagar looks for evidence and is soon convinced that there is more to Pari than meets the eye. To get to the core of the truth Sagar starts investigating. Come what may he will not stop until mystery is solved. Action is Sunil’s forte and he plays the hardcore cop convincingly. Yet one can still catch him lisping at times. As for Raveena the lass has matured considerably since her mast mast days. On his part director Naeem Shah has tried to spin a gripping yarn. He has put in all the necessary ingredients of a potboiler—the brawny, quick-on-the-trigger hero, the nubile, ‘in the need of help’ heroine who doesn’t mind hip shaking to the pelvic savvy numbers. What’s more he maintains the element of suspense right to the end of the story? Yet there is disappointment. What could have been a nail-biting suspense thriller is defaced by too much of action, bloodshed and gore. Copyright 2005 ApunKaChoice.com. All rights reserved. |
