“Kranti” is the typical kitsch-ridden Bollywood masala flick that doesn’t rise above the ordinary as far as the content is concerned. Naresh Malhotra’s direction is shoddy and without any subtle nuances. There is too much unnecessary action in the film – needless bomb blasts, high-speed car chases and incendiary stuff.
Even the film’s narrative is often broken by the ill-placed songs and hardly gathers momentum to fully engage a viewer. Malhotra could not even extract a good performance from the talented ensemble of cast he had at his service.
Bobby Deol’s character is riddled with clichés. Abhay Pratap Singh is shown as the epitome of virtues. He is the dashing X-generation cop who doesn’t believe in the lengthy conventional methods of imparting justice. He wields gun with panache and goes about putting iron in the evil ones without the slightest pricking of conscience. On the other hand he doesn’t take a minute in throwing all his inhibitions in joining his girlfriend in jiving around the trees.

Patel’s character of a US returned PhD candidate doing thesis on honest police officers is hardly believable, although she plays it convincingly. Vinod Khanna’s character too passes muster without any notice. Only Kashmira Shah’s raunchy dance number is quite an eye-catcher and so is the versatile Om Puri’s cameo.
Even Jatin-Lalit’s music score is a total letdown.
