'Had Kar Di Apne' Yeh To Comedy Ki Had Ho Gayee...

Bollywood’s comedian No.1, Govinda, hits the silver screen with Khandala-girl, Rani Mukherji, in his latest release ‘Had Kar Di Apne’. The film has Govinda playing several roles like Sanjeev Kumar did in ‘Naya Din Nayee Raat.’

‘Had Kar Di Apne’, a slapstick comedy, is about a Peter Sellers-like detective (played by Govinda) following his ladylove (Rani Mukherji) in the beautiful locales in Europe. And the duo is accompanied by a bunch of ‘desi’ tourists, who contribute in their own way to bring the lovebirds in one cage.

‘Had Kar Di Apne’ casts Govinda in multitudinous roles. Though he has tried to play Peter Sellers’ kind of dumb detective, he still appears on the screen in many guises. From a peevish grandmother or a shaky grandfather to a nubile girl, chi chi plays different roles with ease and conviction.

The film is temperamental in progress with a punch of puerile jokes and pranks, which hardly brings a wrinkle to one’s belly. The blunt humor and deliberately framed sequences make the movie quite dull and low on hilarity. Nevertheless, the peppy songs shot on exotic locations in Europe lend some vigor to it. ‘Kudi Kawari’, one such jazzy-snazzy number from the movie, is running hot on music charts nowadays.

Rani Mukherji, who appears for the first time with ‘King of Comedy’, Govinda, shows some potential for good humor. She matches Govinda’s perfect timing of comedy. Johny Lever and Paresh Rawal also make timely appearances throughout the movie with their own unique way of putting zing into things.

Directed by Manoj Agarwal, who is doing his second film with Govinda, ‘Had Kar Di Apne’ is targeted at the masses. Manoj’s first film with Govinda, ‘Pardesi Babu’ did not exactly set the cash registers ticking.

After ‘Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain’ failed to turn up the trumps, Govinda is looking desperate for a hit to regain his place in the tinsel town. And it seems quite unlikely that ‘Had Kar Di Apne’ will keep him reined in. But chi chi has no reasons to fret or frown. His pants will remain sexy as long as public wants them to
