'Aitbaar'

The strong point of the movie is its storyline that has not been tried so often on the silver screen. On one hand is an over-protective father who wants to decide what is best for his daughter. On the other is an obsessive lover who would go to any lengths to win his love. Torn between the two is a girl who wants to assert herself and wants to take curial decisions of her life on her own.

Some

of the sequences that stand out in the movie are: The encounter between John and Bipasha on a rainy day and the following sequences that gives the viewers a clue to John's unstable mind. Another sequence that strikes you like a bolt out of the blue is when John visits a prostitute. The same goes for the sequence when Amitabh learns of John's past through a newspaper cutting and confronts him.

The film progresses at quite a slick pace in the first half but slackens in the second. The momentum is again regained before the climax with the violent showdown between the psycho boyfriend and the father.

Amitabh Bachchan deftly slips into the role of a protective father. There are many scenes in the film in which the superstar says much only through his facial expression without any dialogues.

Bipasha Basu also shows the maturity of an actress. She proves that besides playing sensual roles on screen she is also capable of handling complex roles that demand strict histrionics.

John Abraham impresses with his twin personality act. The quicksilver delicacy with which he slips from one mould into another is commendable.

In a nutshell, ‘Aitbaar’ is a wholesome entertainer with elements of romance, family drama and good music to boot.
