'Dil Maange More' Candyfloss romantic comedy

Dabbling in cinematic experimentation cost actor-turned-director Anant Mahadevan dearly in his first directorial venture. In his second movie Dil Maange More, Mahadevan has played it safe by sticking to a romantic comedy about a guy (who looks more like a boy than a man) in love with three girls.

Shahid Kapur reminds of Shah Rukh Khan when he acts and Shammi Kapoor when he dances, while Soha Khan will catch your attention because of her striking facial resemblance to her esteemed mother Sharmila Tagore. The movie, Dil Maange More, will roughly remind you of the black-n-white Dev Anand-starrer Teen Deviyaan. So, what’s original about this movie? The end, perhaps, and that too is disappointing.

Dil

Maange More
tells the story of a young lad Nikhil (Shahid) who is smitten with angelic Neha (Soha). All seems hunky-dory for the easy-going Nikhil until Neha decides to leave her village Samarpur and goes to Mumbai to become an airhostess. Like a true lover, Nikhil follows her to Mumbai.

In Mumbai, Nikhil takes a job at a music store where he falls for another girl, his colleague Sarah (Tulip Joshi). But there is still some space for more love in Nikhil’s heart. Soon he meets his beautiful neighbor Shagun (Ayesha Takia) and is enamored with her too.

Love stories get tangled as Nikhil is torn between three girls. Finally, he decides to straighten up and commit to one girl only. Who will she be?

A candyfloss romantic comedy that will appeal to kids if not teenagers, Dil Maange More starts off well with entertaining moments, but it becomes a hodgepodge in the second half. And the biggest disappointment comes in the end with a poorly thought denouement to the hero’s love predicament.

Shahid Kapur is not original in his acting. He imitates Shahrukh, and worst of all, he is not able to hide his imitation. Being in the beginning of his acting career, it is very important for him to give up this habit that will only cripple his acting for the rest of his career.

Soha Ali Khan has a striking resemblance to her mother, but she does not show an equal acting potential. Her face looks bland and devoid of any expression at many times in the film.

Other girls Tulip Joshi and Ayesha Takia are quite noticeable in their acts.

On the whole, Dil Maange More is a light-hearted entertainer that is more inclined towards comedy that romance. There is not a single love-moment in the film that will strike a chord at viewers’ heart. But it will definitely give you a few good laughs.
