'Krishna Cottage'

Intended to be a horror flick, 'Krishna Cottage' aims to scare a viewer by the sheer appeal of its visual style, technique and background soundtrack. The movie lacks a taught script and a novel theme. Although it does have its share of spooky moments, they are either too commonplace and trite or few and far between.

The movie begins with the launch of a book by a famous author (Raj Zutsi). This book is an unusual book with nine-and-a-half stories. The author did not conclude the final story, as he could not come up with an appropriate ending.

The

scene then shifts to campus where Manav [Sohail Khan] and Shanu [Natasha] are students in a same college. The two are set to get engaged to each other. On their engagement day, they happen to meet a newcomer Disha [Isha Koppikar] in their class.

There is an undercurrent of attraction between both Manav and Disha in their first meeting itself. The same night, during the engagement ceremony, Manav saves Disha from a mishap and, along with his friends, decides to escort her to her house.

On the way their car gets punctured and there arrives that much clichéd sequence when all of them are forced to take shelter in a mysterious Krishna Cottage for the night. Little do they know that the cottage his haunted by a spirit that has been waiting for 22 years to claim its victim.

Thus begin a chain of murders. And the mystery begins to deepen further until a weird character of a middle-aged woman makes an entry and claims that she can communicate with the spirit...

Directed by debutante Santram Verma, the movie has its share of scary moments that occasionally sends chills down a viewer's spine. But the director has relied too heavily on stylistic presentation of an ineffectively penned story. As a result, although the movie does appear visually spooky, the script does not synergise with the cinematic presentation to come up with an effective, atmospheric and understandable horror film.

Furthermore, the performances in the movie by its starcast are below average. Sohail Khan's bland face is void of any terror-filled emotions one got to see in Bhoot. Among others Natasha is passable while Isha just about plays her role.

Average.
